Interpretation is an oral translation from a source language into a target language. Doing this under time pressure is a genuine skill.
Whether you are planning a big event or a small seminar, you need reliable event interpretation services you can trust. Multilingual event services have increased in popularity since the workforce has become more diverse. There are multiple ways of doing this;
SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION
In this type of interpretation, the interpreters use headphones to hear the content spoken in the source language, translate it, and using a microphone to translate while the target-language listeners hear everything through earphones. Commonly, interpreters sit in a sound-proof booth for maximum concentration. This interpreting mode consists of translating from one language into another in real-time, without the speaker of the source language having to stop.
The disadvantage of this mode is that interpreters only have a few moments to translate what is being said. The advantage is that the natural flow of the speaker won’t be disturbed. One of the fundamental skills of the simultaneous interpreter is decisiveness. There is simply no time to weigh the merits of variant translations and recall just a suitable idiom in the target language. Simultaneous interpreters must be decisive in choosing the right word to convey the meaning to the target language.
CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETATION
In this mode of interpretation, the speaker’s pause allows the interpreter to translate the content to the target language. However, interpreters can translate after long or short terms of content. Interpreters are standing or sitting near the speaker. It is preferred for the audience that the interpreter translates a whole thought instead of small pieces of speech. This form will provide a more accurate interpretation.
A vital skill for this type of interpretation is note-taking. It is hard for an interpreter to memorize a whole idea without losing details, so it is easier to write it down while the speaker is talking.
WHISPERED INTERPRETATION
This mode is a variation of the simultaneous interpretation. The interpreter will be next to the target-language listener to translate the idea and speak it softly to the listener (Interpreters do not have to “whisper”).
Depending on the difficulty of the content, a team of three interpreters is often used so they can switch and rest after interpreting for ten or twenty minutes.
